Regardless of what you might hear to the contrary, there is both a marketplace and demand for e-books and although books made of paper are still preferred by most readers, some readers actually prefer e-books.
When I initially wrote my book, I released it in CD-ROM version and felt this was the most efficient and economical way to convey what I wanted to readers. I still think of the CD-ROM version is more efficient than the paperback version as the reader needs only to click on hyperlinks and be taken to the website I reference rather than hold a paperback and type a URL into their computer. At the same time, I recognized that some people just do not like being tied to their computer to read a book and would rather sit in a comfortable chair somewhere and read a paperback. To my surprise, many people have opted to buy both versions so they can put the CD-ROM version on their computer and have instant access to everything while still having the option of taking a paperback version with them wherever they go is a reference.
Several months after releasing the paperback version, I was planning a one-month vacation and knew I would be putting my book inventory on vacation as well. This meant that while I was gone, customers could not buy a new copy from me and would only have the option of buying a used copy or a copy from another seller at highly inflated price. So, I decided to make the CD-ROM version available through ebookmall.com as an instant download.
The online instant download from ebookmall.com did result in a few sales, but they were sporadic and not very high in volume. I continued to let my book be sold through ebookmall.com, and yesterday I logged into my ebookmall.com account to see how things are going and was shocked. Apparently, the few and sporadic sales of my book through ebookmall.com was owing to little visibility rather than lack of demand. Ebookmall.com is one of the largest online marketplaces for e-books with over 150,000 titles available, and my book was #1 on their bestseller list. It seems that as soon as people actually began to find it and it started to move up in the ebookmall.com ranks, more people began to see it, leading to even more sales.
I guess what I really want to convey here is that it is not always a good idea to only market what you think are the best options, make use of technology and market all of the options because what you might think is best is not always what your customers might think is best and you just might miss out on some sales. This applies to selling books other than your own book too.
Wow, #1 on the ebookmall.com marketplace! I do not know how long he can stay up near the top, but it is a great feeling to hit #1 on a major marketplace bestseller list. If it never happens again, at least I can say it happened once.
For those customers that do not want to wait for the post office to deliver a copy of my book, I will soon have the option available to purchase the CD-ROM version of the book and e-mail it to you from my own website. You can save the wait, postage, and the cost of the CD by purchasing it and having it e-mailed to you. You can then burn it to a CD yourself for archiving. Additionally, by purchasing directly from my website and having me e-mail the book to you, I will be able to capture your customer information and quickly verify your customer status if you opt to join our "customer only" forum.
Thank you to all of my customers. I sincerely appreciate your support and positive feedback. It is nice to hear from so many people that they appreciate how bookselling has changed their lives and given them a feeling of independence they did not think they could achieve. You are visitor:
