One of my customers asked me how I was able to have my picture taken inside an airplane engine, i.e., the picture I have posted on my "About The Author" page of my website. I sell books online to supplement my income only and to support the travels of both my wife and I. By day I am a flight test engineer at a big airplane company in Seattle. The picture was taken in 1995 during the certification testing of the 777. I was assigned to the first 777, known as WA001, and while we were down in Roswell, New Mexico doing cross-wind landings, I set up my camera and tripod to take a picture of anyone on the crew that wanted their picture taken. I think I went through three rolls of film that morning because almost everyone on the crew (almost 100 people) wanted their picture taken inside the engine. The engine is a Pratt & Whitney 4084, and the diameter of the engine is only slightly smaller than the fuselage of a 737. Where I am standing in the fan area, the diameter is 11' 4", and I am 6' 4" tall, so you can see it is a big engine. You are visitor:
