Last month I decided it was time to do something to end my daily waiting in post office lines.  I knew about the various online postage services, but for five years I resisted subscribing because I didn't want to pay more monthly fees or be bothered with setting up a postage system and printing labels.

After doing some investigating of the various services available, I settled on endicia, but still needed to do a little research of the available printer options.  I found that I could either opt for the low cost printer up front and pay for more expensive labels as I go, or pay for a little more expensive printer up front that used much cheaper labels.

The Dymo LabelWriter 400 printer was available through endicia in a package deal for $239.95 without a scale, or $249.95 with a scale. Alternatively, I could buy the same printer at my local Office Max for $199.98.  The package offered by endicia was a much better deal, but I still had the label issue to resolve.  It seemed the best deal available for labels would involve a two-part label that would cost $.09333 each.

The next most likely candidate to me was the package offered by endicia that included the Zebra LP2844 printer for $474.95 which included 7 months of premium endicia service.  I also found that I could get labels for this printer in bulk (12 rolls) from endicia for $.035 each.

To me, making the decision was simple, I bought the Zebra printer package from endicia because the savings on label cost alone would pay the difference after shipping 3850 books, but to me the clincher was the fact that the Dymo printer labels would require me peeling and sticking two labels and the Zebra printer prints a single 4" x 6" label meaning less handling time by me and a cleaner and more professional looking package for my customers.

After receiving my package, I set it all up within a couple hours and have not had any problems with it since.  There is no way I would go back to standing in line at the Post Office and I do not miss all the
cutting and taping of addresses on packages either.

If you are just getting into online bookselling or if you are an experienced online bookseller looking for efficiency improvements, I strongly endorse endicia.  If you really want to make some efficiency improvements, add SpaceWare's program AMan Pro and you will be able to import your email and print your postage labels all within AMan Pro because they have integrated endicia into the program.
